Welcome to Our Website!

Community Mothers are volunteers who use their experiences as mothers as well as local knowledge to support and encourage new parents.
All visits take place in the parent's home and the service is free.
There are many reasons why parents use Community Mothers.
You may feel isolated in your community because you have no family/friends nearby; You may be finding it difficult to adjust to the life of being a parent;

You would like to know what is happening in your local community but don't know where to start!

How does the programme work? If you have at least one child aged between 0 and 5 years you can request a Community Mother to call by asking at the ante-natal clinic, asking your Public Health Nurse, Practice Nurse or G.P. or by contacting the programme offices directly. What the Community Mother will discuss with you will centre on your needs as an individual and as a parent. Trained Community Mothers have excellent knowledge of activities and services in your area, particularly those for parents of young children.

Thanking You.

Infant massage

Infant massage is an ancient art that has been practiced for many centuries by many cultures. However, in the West, it only became well known during the 1980’s because of the work of Vimula McClure in the United States.

She experienced the wonderful benefits of positive touch while working in India during the 1970’s. Infant Massage, as practiced today, is a combination of Indian and Swedish massage, reflexology and yoga.

March 2012

Helium, Working with Community Mothers and families.

In March 2012 Community Mothers worked in partnership with Helium in facilitating workshops which were part of the Seminar Creative Connections in Mullingar. Helium also trained a group of Community mothers from Mullingar, Athlone and Longford in making some of the props used to stimulate the parent/baby relationship using simple every day items. The workshop was a huge success and all of the Community mothers really enjoyed the experience as well as learning new ways of helping parents development stimulating play experiences.
